N: Where do you live?

A: I live in ...

N: Do you live there alone?

A: I live with my family.

N: Have you lived there for a long time since you were born?

A: I was born in …., but I have lived in New York and in London because of my husband's business transfer.

N: Oh, I see. How long did have you live for each country?

A: Well, I lived in New York for 6 years and in London for 4 years.

N: Did you work there? What were you doing over there?

A: I didn't work there because my children were still small. But my children attended local schools, so I had a lot of opportunities to explain Japanese culture and traditions to American and British friends.

N: Did you remember anything particular?

A: At my children's school, I taught how to make origami and the students really enjoyed it.

N: I see. By the way, I heard that Nikko is famous for a holiday destination in Japan. Would you please tell me something about Nikko?

A: In Nikko, you can enjoy autumn leaves right now. From Iroha slope, you can appreciate very beautiful view of autumn foliage. At Toshogu Shrine, there is a Yomei Gate and it is very gorgeous. Toshogu enshrinesTokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun in the Edo period.

N: In Japan, martial arts are still popular. Please explain one of these.

A: I don't practice any martial arts by myself. But I would like to explain about Judo. Judo is originated from Jujutsu for the samurai class in the Edo period. Kano Jigoro established Judo from Jujutsu in the Meiji period about 100 years ago. Judo is self-defense and training for body and mind. These days, it is an Olympic event.

N: What's the difference between Judo and Jujutsu?

A: Well, I think basically they are the same. The main techniques are throwing and grappling. Kano Jigoro defined the detailed rules.

N: Now, let's move on. What's Haiku?

A: Haiku is the shortest poem in the world. It consists of 17 words, 5-7-5 syllables. It must contain a season word.

N: Would you please tell me examples of season words in summer?

A: Let me see….cicada and hototogisu, a kind of bird.

N: In Tokyo, where would you like to take foreign tourists?

A: I would like to take them to Nezu Museum. Nezu Museum has been recently renovated. It has a variety of Japanese arts including National treasures. In addition, it has a beautiful Japanese garden and they can also enjoy autumn leaves.

N: What kind of Japanese arts are there in Nezu Museum?

A: It has hanging scrolls and utensils for tea ceremony.

N: What factors have led to longevity of Japanese people?

A: I think Japanese food is very healthy. We often eat fish and soy bean products such as miso soup made of fermented soy bean paste and natto, fermented soy beans. They are rich in protein and low calories.

N: All right. That's all for today. Thank you for coming.

J: Thank you very much for your time.
