試験官：　固い表情の日本人女性（50代？）おとなしくやさしい感じのイギリス人男性（30代）

質問内容

（以下、J：日本人試験官、N：ネイティブ試験官、A：受験者）

N: Please tell me about Japanese Garden. What kind of Japanese Gardens are there?

A: First, there is Jyodoshiki Garden, which represents Western Paradise(the Western Pure Landだったんですね) which was made in Heian Period. Another garden is Zen influenced Dry Landscape Garden. Other gardens are Landscape Gardens.
（日本人女性が首をかしげたりして固い表情なので、こちらも硬くなってしまい短い説明になってしまいました）

N: Can you give me each example?

A: Heian Period-Style-Garden（浄土式が確かでなかったので）is… Actually, I’m from Iwate prefecture, in Hiraizumi, Iwate, there’s Motsuji.（日本人女性、少し納得した感じ）Dry Landscape Garden is Ryoanji in Kyoto. There is a Landscape Garden in Tokyo, called Hamarikyu. When you follow the directions, you can enjoy hills, ponds and trees. There is a tea house, too.

N: I see. What is Hiragana and Katakana?

A: First, Kanji was imported from China in 6th century. Hiragana is made to simplify Kanji. Katakana is to write for foreign language.

N: When was Hiragana made? (madeという単語だったかは確かではありません)

A: In 8th century.（もっと後ですね、失敗）

N: In 8th century. （日本人女性、首をかしげていたかもしれません） Was Hiragana for everyone?

A: It was only for court people.（「女性」や「源氏物語」も言いたかったのですが、固まっていました）

N: When was Katakana made?

A: I think it was after Meiji Restoration because we had an isolation policy. （日本人女性が不審な顔をされていたので）Well, maybe a little bit before that. We still had a limited trading with Holland… I think I have to look it up later. （日本人女性うなずく）

N: Why do you want to become a tour guide?

A: In the beginning, since I like Kabuki very much, I wanted to introduce Kabuki as many foreign people as possible. I didn’t know much about geography or history. Then, I had to study them. As I learn more and more, I found more beauty in Japan. Now I’d like to introduce the beauty of Japan to foreign people who visit Japan.

N: Is the number of foreign visitors increasing?

A: Yes.

N: It’s increasing.（確認）What can Japan do to attract foreign visitors? （聞き取れたのですが、間があいてしまって、もう一度質問を繰り返されたかもしれません）

A: I think we can have more tourist offices in town, so tourists can ask questions and feel comfortable when they travel.

N: OK. Thank you.

A: Thank you very much.

試験を終えて

日本人女性が気になったので、出口で「ありがとうございました」と大きな声で言ってみました。その時少し表情が和らいだような気がしましたが・・・イギリス人男性の方はおとなしい方で、ロールプレイというより質問を淡々とされている感じで、日本人女性はきびしい感じの方だったので、緊張しっぱなしでした。笑顔はがんばって続けていたつもりですが、ひきつっていたかもしれませんし、声が小さめで早口になってしまったかもしれません（涙）。
