試験官は、外国人男性(50代)と日本人男性(50代)の二名。

質問内容

（以下、J：日本人試験官、N：ネイティブ試験官、A：受験者）

日本人の試験官の方がドアを開けてくださいました。

J：次の方どうぞ。

A：はい。ありがとうございます。

　　Good afternoon. (遠くに座っていた外国人の試験官の方に挨拶しましたが返事なし)

N：Put your belongings on the seat.　Have a seat.

A：Thank you.

N：What is your name? Where do you live?

A：My name is．．． I live in．．．

J：・・・・さんですね。

A：はい。

N：How do you explain Bounenkai to foreign visitors?

A：Bouennkai literally means forget- the- year party. It’s a drinking party.　（at the end of the year と付けるべきでした。） We have drinking parties with colleagues and friends. Japanese have the idea that everything can be reset at the turn of the year. In order to forget the woes and faux pas of the old year and start the new year with fresh mind we have drinking parties.（Japanaese have the idea …と言ったあたりでようやくNさんがしっかりと起き上がってくれました。）

N：Are you planning to have Bounenkai soon?

A：Not soon.　 But two weeks later I will have Bounenkai with my friends.

N：Do you like Bounenkai?

A：Yes. Because I like drinking.　(ここでNさんにぷっと笑われる。本当は、私はお酒を一滴も飲めないのですが)　 And I like chatting with my friends.

N：What kind of things are done at tea ceremony?

A：Tea ceremony is a tea drinking ritual. The tea used in tea ceremony is powdered green tea called maccha. The host puts maccha in a large tea bowl and adds hot water into it and whisks it with a bamboo tea whisk called cha-sen until the tea becomes frothy. And the guests drink it and express appreciation in special ways.

N：Have you ever studied tea ceremony?

A：No, I haven’t. But two weeks ago I took the Hato bus tour. And the tour included tea ceremony experience. I enjoyed tea ceremony as a guest.

N：Where did you enjoy tea ceremony?

A：At Happouen hotel.

N：In Tokyo?

A：Yes. In Tokyo.

N：What do you think of Japan’s economy?

A：I’m very concerned about Japan’s economy. The yen has reached the strongest in 15 years. Strong yen means that Japanese products become expensive in foreign countries. This can reduce the Japanese companies’ global competitiveness. Japanese companies are heavily dependent on export. So I’m very concerned about it.

N：Why do you think the yen has reached the strongest in 15 years?

A：I think that’s because China and the United States are trying to reduce the value of their currencies in order to increase their global competitiveness. Weak dollar means that the products of the United States become cheaper in Japan.　So they can export their products more easily.

N：What do you think of this situation?

A：I think it’s important to achieve the balance. The competition to reduce the value of the currencies should be restricted. They should refrain from such competition.(実際はもっとたどたどしく答えています。)

N：My questions have finished.

J：ここからは日本語で質問しますので、日本語でお答え下さい。

A：はい。

J：通訳ガイドになられた後で、どういう点に気をつけてガイドしたいですか。

A：はい。私は今、生け花を習っていて、仏像やお寺に興味があって、よく鎌倉や京都に行きます。私はそういうすばらしい日本の文化を外国からの訪問客の方に伝えたいと思います。
（いきなりの日本語の質問にびっくりして、日本語で答えているのに、文法を間違えてます。しかも質問の趣旨と違う答えになっています。本当はhospitalityとかに言及すべきだったのだと思います。）

J：以上で質問はおわりです。

A：Thank you very much.　ありがとうございました。

試験を終えて

試験は本当にあっというまでした。試験会場に着くまでは極度の緊張状態だったのですが、不思議と本番はさほど緊張せず、会話を楽しむことができました。本当にすごく楽しかったです！

文法も発音も色々と間違えましたが、今持っている自分の実力は出し切ったと思います。

面接官との距離は思ったよりもすごく近く、会話しやすくアイコンタクトもとり易かったです。（mock interviewの時の距離の約半分くらいでした。）

笑顔、元気、挨拶はしっかりできたと思います。

ただ、答えることに必死で、私はまた手を無意味に振り回していたと思います。
