試験の様子

１．受験票の時間指示→１６：３５～１７：３０拘束
　２．当日１６：００受付　控え室にて３０分程待機
　３．名前が呼ばれ三名で案内される。アルバイトのお嬢さんの話では、昨年より大幅に受験者が増えたので、会場が一つの校舎では足りなくなり、控え室から一番遠い、大ホールに近い校舎の５階の一教室でインタービューを受ける。
　４．教室の前で三人が面接順に座る。私は三人の中で最後。１６：４５以降は流れ解散となった。
　５．１７：００入室。この教室での面接は私で最後でした。
　６．試験官２名。外国人：３５歳前後の明るい感じの男性。日本人：外国人男性と同年齢と思われるスレンダーな女性。最初に受験者の顔写真と住所を確認後は、メモを取っていらした。

質問内容

（以下、J：日本人試験官、N：ネイティブ試験官、A：受験者）

N: How are you?

A: I am fine, thank you. But I’m very nervous. （二人とも笑う。日本人女性が受験票をみたので、）My name is ... I’m from ...

N: While I am in Japan, I have an earthquake, then what should I do?

A: I think you should listen to the government information and follow the advice, I mean, the government information, as soon as possible.

N: Do you have something to protect you from the earthquake?

A: I bought a special device to prevent the furniture from falling down. Also, cans of water and biscuits for it. （試験官はこのビスケットの単語を繰り返し、にんまりする）So I think our family can survive at least for a few days.（笑い）

N: Tell me about the difference of Maiko, Geiko, xxxxxx, and Geisha?（確か４個あったと思うのですが、一つ思い出せません。）

A: Geiko and ?

N: Geiko and xxxxxx.（繰り返して言ってくださる）

A: I can answer Maiko, Maiko is a trainee of Geisha. It usually takes about five years to be a Geisha. Geisha is a professional entertainer. I am sorry I don’t know the other two. For commoners, their world is so different from us. If I could pass a tour guide examination, I will go to Kyoto and I study it completely. Next time if I meet you, I can explain it to you.（二人とも笑う、特に外国人。）

N: Did you have female rulers in Japan?

A: Yes, we had a few female rulers, I mean the empress.

N: What do you think Japanese females become a ruler?

A: I think it is too early. （女性試験官がearlyと聞きけげんそうに呟く。）

N: I want to buy electronic appliances. Will you recommend some place for me?

A: Akihabara.

N: Which store is good?

A: Daiichi Kaden. （He seems not to understand.） Yodobashi Camera.

N: How do you spell it?

A: Y... o... bo. （I am so confused.）　If I have something to write, I can tell you. （He gave me his pencil and a piece of paper, and I wrote Yodobashi on it and returned to him.）

N: Can I get some bargain there?

A: I have shopped several times there. But I’ve never bargained. But I think it has a special code for foreign tourists. Please try.

N: OK. That’s all.

A: Finish?

N: Finish.

A: Thank you very much.

N & J: Thank you.

試験を終えて

男性試験官が終始明るく反応してくださったので試験時間が短く感じられました。最後にFinish?と聞き返したのは「もう終わりなんですか」という本当に正直な気持でした。二次試験対策の基本は今更ながら日本の地理、歴史そして一般常識をしっかり理解し、出来る限り多くの事を自分の英語で説明できる必要性を強く感じました。更に大切なコミュニケーション能力は、日本語会話力を日々鍛える、即ちしっかり聞いて、確実に答える事でしょうか。
