N: Hello. Where are you from?

A: I am from Tokyo.(区を言い忘れました)

J: From which ward?

A: ... Ward, Tokyo.

N: Please describe “Hanami”?

と聞き返した後) Well, Hanami is cherry blossom viewing. Cherry blossoms bloom from March to early April. It depends on the location, and it lasts two weeks. People gather in a park to view the cherry blossoms by drinking sake and singing songs.

J: (にこにこしながら)Then, the cherry blossom is important for Japanese. Any other important flower?

A: (日本人試験官も英語で質問するとは予期せず) Take Chrysanthemum for example, as it is a symbol of our royal family. family crestと言うつもりだったが、crestを思い出せずsymbolとする。

N: When did Japanese start to wear such Western clothes?

A: Since the middle of 19th century, when the Edo period finished and modern Japan started, Japanese started to wear western clothes. From ancient times to the middle of the 19th century, they were wearing traditional Japanese clothes, kimono. After the modern Japan started in the middle of 19th century, the Meiji Restorationを言い忘れたと思います) the new government sent several people to Western countries especially to Europe to learn modern issues. Clothes were one of the issues. Then, they started to wear Western clothes.

N: (この程度で納得された感じで)Their hair styles as well?

A: Yes, until then, their hair styles were a topknot. After the middle of the 19th century, when the Edo period finished, they changed the hair styles.

N: Suppose my wife and I are tourists visiting Tokyo. I am interested in electric goods and my wife is interested in modern fashion. Where would you recommend us to visit?

A: Well, I would recommend Akihabara, as many electric appliances and parts are available with reasonable prices. For modern fashion, I recommend you to go to Ginza, as the area is famous for modern fashion.

N: Can we visit the both spots in a day?

A: Yes, if you take the Metro, it takes around 15 minutes from Akihabara to Ginza.

N: Very good. I have only three questions. (Jへ向かって) Do you have another question?

J: No, that’s enough.

N: Thank you. I am sorry to have kept you waiting so long. Have a good night.

N: Thank you. Not at all. You too. Good bye. 「

Very Good.
