試験の様子
受験会場は（東京）昭和女子大学。受付時刻は15:05で、30-40分前に会場に到着した。受付場所／受付時刻等の案内板を読んでいたら、係の男性が来て「15:05ならばまだ時間がありますから、あちらの休憩室（飲み物の自販機やテーブル、いすが置いてあるところ）にしばらくいらして、14:50頃受付しても十分間に合いますよ。いったん受付をすませると待合室にてお待ち戴くため、お手洗い以外は行けませんので・・・。」等と教えて下さった。その指示に従った。受付を済ませた後、指定の待合室へ。
待合室では自由に着席。呼び出しを待つ。受験番号と名前で3人ずつ呼び出しがあり、指定の試験室へ誘導され、試験室外で一緒に待機。誘導係の方が座る順番を指示する。呼ばれる順番も教えてくれる。誘導係の方に名前を呼ばれ、部屋に入るように指示される。ノックして、ドアを開け、「失礼致します。」“Good afternoon!”と言って中に入る。
試験官は2名、ネイティブ1名（外国人女性）と日本人1名（女性）。日本人女性の試験官はじっとやりとりを聞いていただけで、何も言わなかったと思う。
質問内容
（以下、J：日本人試験官、N：ネイティブ試験官、A：受験者）
N: Good afternoon! How are you? （にこやかに）
A: I’m very fine, thanks to today’s weather. （と言ったつもりだが）
N: Together’s weather? ?
A: Today’s weather. Oh, I’m very sorry. I wanted to say, “I’m very fine because today’s weather is beautiful. I’m nervous. I’m sorry. （あわててしまった。）
N: Please put your bag on the table in the back and sit down.
A: Thank you.
N: What is your name?
A: My name is ... My first name means ... in English. My father gave me this name, because my father likes ..., especially ... So, I wish to keep ...
N: Where do you live? （軽くうなづきながら）
A: I live in ... ward in Tokyo. ... Station is near from my apartment.
N: Were you born there? （実は一度目は聞き取れず、Could you repeat?と言った。）
A: I was born in Koga city in Ibaraki prefecture.
N: Could you tell me in your hometown where do you want to take foreign visitors?
A: Beautiful Watarase river and Watarase Yusuichi. Yusuichi means a flood control basin and it’s a kind of large park. You will enjoy riding a bicycle and bird watching, etc.
N: Alright. In Japan, there are lot of earthquakes. When an earthquake happens, what should I do?
A: Oh, earthquake. Firstly, please check whether you use gas. If yes, please turn it off immediately. （ガスの元栓を閉めるまねをしねがら） And then, please hide yourself under the desk or table. （教室の机を指さし、頭を抱え込む格好をしながら。）
N: What should I prepare for earthquake?
A: Mineral water like that （試験官の方たちの机にミネラルウオーターが置いてあったので、思わず手で差して）and necessary food for surviving during two or three days.
N: Right. What styles of statue of Buddha are there?
A: The status of Buddha are usually made of wood and the color is black or brown... （と言いかけ、自分でもとんちんかんなことを言っているうな気がした。）
N: Hum, is a status of Buddha standing?
A: Oh, yes, standing with beautiful smile. For example, in the oldest Buddhist temple, Horyuji, in Nara prefecture, there is a statue standing and smiling and putting fingers like this. （頬に指をあてて。）
N: （うなづきながら）What is the difference among geisha, geiko and maiko?
A: Oh, it’s difficult to explain it to you.
N: （にこっと笑い）You have to do it.
A: Yes. Geisha learns the old Japanese music and the Japanese dance, and entertains the guests at a Japanese restaurant. For example, in Tokyo, you can see geisha in Kagurazaka or Asakusa, Yanagibashi. Maiko also learns the old Japanse music, the Japanese dance, elegance and manner. Maiko is in the Gion area in Kyoto.
N: What is the Gion (area)?
A: Oh, sorry, Gion is the name of the place in the center of Kyoto. （geikoは何も言えなかった。）
N: I see. Alright. （We are finished.と言ったような…） Thank you. （日本語の質問があるかと思い、少し待ったが、何もなかった。）
N: You can leave.
A: （終わったのだとようやく理解して）Thank you very much. （所要時間6～7分。荷物を取って再度 ） “Thank you very much.” 「ありがとうございました。」（会釈して退室。）
試験を終えて
待機室へと誘導されて、約1時間待った。男性と女性の係員1名ずつがいた。お手洗いに行く時は携帯電話を机の上に置いて行くように言われた。そして、女性の係の方も一緒に付き添った。待機中は携帯電話さえ使わなければ、何をしてもよいということだったが、（変に疑われても嫌だと思い）、メモをとったりすることはしないようにした。ただし、周りを見回すといろいろと書いている方は結構いた。
