N: Good afternoon!

A: Good afternoon!

J: Good afternoon. Please have a seat.

A: Thank you.

J: What is your name ?

A: My name is....

J: And where do you live?

A: I was born and brought up in...

N: (「君は今日一日僕のガイドだからよろしくね」といった内容のコメント)

A: Nice to meet you.

N: Why is it dry in winter in Tokyo?

A: This is because of air pressure system. In winter, high pressure system is located in the west, and low pressure system is in the east. And also Japanese archipelago, especially Honsyu area, has high mountains, like a backbone. Because of these factors, it is very dry and sunny during winter in Tokyo.

N: When is the typhoon season in Japan?

A: Typhoons usually hit Japan thorough September to November, and high typhoon season is September. But they usually last just a few days and also they are avoidable according to the weather forecast. So you can enjoy traveling.

N: I heard that Japan has a lot of earthquakes. What would you do if a great earthquake happens?

A: First, you make sure your exit, and open the door. If you are using gas, turn off gas. Then go under a table or study desk so that debris will not fall on you. If there is a major earthquake, then run away, walk slowly. However, in Japan, most newly-built high-rise buildings are very safe, because they are built according to very strict criteria against earthquakes. So you don't need to worry about your hotel room.

N: (東京で家電を買うなら、どこに行けばいい?)

A: I'll recommend you go to Akihabara neaby Tokyo station. Akihabara is very famous as an electric district. There are a lot of shops, and I've heard there are a few shops for foreign tourists. So you can buy and use them in your home country.

N: What is the name of the electric shop in Akihabara?

A: You can check it on the Web site.

N: What is the difference, between maiko, geiko, and geisha?

A: First, maiko and geiko is a special term in Kyoto, and maiko is a geiko, or geisha, apprentice, or geisya trainee. They are proficient in traditional dances and songs. In Tokyo, for example, in Asakusa or in Kagurazaka, you can play with them.

N: Is it expensive?

A: Yes. it is a bit expensive. However, in Kyoto, maiko dance events are held in spring and in autumn in Gion district. They are not so expensive.

N: What is enka?

A: Enka is a type of music, especially popular among elderly people. Enka is also said to be similar to country music because of its distinctive style.

N: Do you like Enka? Becauce you said it's popular among elderly people, so is it only popular among elderly people?

A: Yes, I like Enka. As I said, in general, enka is very popular among elderly people, but some young people also like enka. That's why enka music program is broadcast on TV. And, if you go to a kind of Japanese pub usually run by a woman, you will have a chance to enjyoy watching customers singing, because there is music machine.

J: Ms....

A: Yes!

J: Thank you. It's over now.

A: Thank you very much.

試験を終えて

「君は僕のガイドだよ」の前振りで、ロールプレイだということを気づかせてくれました。ネイティブの試験官はとてもにこやか&フレンドリーで、実感としては彼も結構しゃべっていたように思います。会話がどんどん流れるのは自然と言えば自然なのですが、言うべきことをきちんと伝えられなかった部分もあり、何だかなあという感じです。とにかくあっと言う間でした…。
