試験の様子

京都会場 16:30から受験

ネイティブは小太りの30歳位の女性。始終にこやか。日本人は50歳前後のベテランガイドっぽい。やさしそうな方。

質問内容

(以下、J:日本人試験官、N:ネイティブ試験官、A:受験者)

J: Please come in the room. Put off your baggage here and sit down.

A: Good afternoon! (できる限りの笑顔で)

N: Hi! Nice to meet you!

J: How are you?

A: Fine!

N: Are you nervous? (どうやら笑顔が引きつっていた様だ)

A: Oh! A liite bit.

N: Take a deep breath! (手を伸ばして深呼吸のジェスチャー)

(私も同じ様に手を伸ばして深呼吸。本心から笑顔になった)

N: Please tell me your name.

A: My name is *****.

N: Where do you live?

A: I live in Aichi prefecture.

N: Nagoya?

A: Yes. (言い忘れて苦笑。緊張からか)

N: How did you come here?

A: I took a bullet train and used the subway.

N: OK. There are a lot of famous landscape gardens in Japan. Do you recommend somewhere?

A: I will recommend Tenryuji temple. It has beautiful dry landscape garden. I am sure you will like it.

N: Do you like it?

A: Yes.

N: I know the red and white curtain in some occasions. On the other hand, I saw a black and white curtain. What is the purpose of each other?

A: The red and white curtain is used for ceremonial occasions, such as festivals. The black and white one is used for funerals.

N: Good! (ふむふむとうなずく)

These days, I think the economy is not good. Do you agree and why?

A: Yes! Many graduated students can’t get jobs in these days. In addition, many people are suffering from poverty.

N: Do you have any measures to cope with this situation?

A: Oh, it is a difficult question... The government should give opportunity for those who don’t have jobs with job training.

N: Your English is very good. Where did you learn it?

(社交辞令かなんだか予想外の質問に唖然。苦笑)

A: I studied by myself using corresponding class. In addition, I took a conversation class in my company. (矛盾に後で気付く)

N: Why do you want to be a tour guide?

(待っているときに外に漏れてきた質問)

A: I am interested in cultural exchange. I would like to tell about Japan to foreigners. I also would like to know about other cultures. In grass root level, if many people get involved mutual understanding, people can understand each other in the world.

(最後の1文に訳のわからないことを言って、ぽかんと口を開けられる)

N, J: (両者顔を見合わせ笑顔で)

OK! Your English is good! Have a enjoy Kyoto after this examination.

(合格させてくれたの?と感じる。単に口がうまいだけ?)

A: Thank you very much! 有難うございました。

N, J: Have a nice day! Thank you!

試験を終えて

1級のやられるかやるかといった殺伐とした試験とは異なり、終始なごやかな雰囲気でした。瞬時に思ったことを口に出して表現するのはやはり難しいです。英語を褒めて頂けたのは半信半疑です。
