(以下、J:日本人試験官、N:ネイティブ試験官、A:受験者)
N, J: Good afternoon. Nice to meet you.
N or J: Put your bag on the shelf behind you.
A: Good afternoon. Nice to meet you, two. (Vサインで2人によろしくの意思表示)
N: May I have your name?
A: My name is ….
N: I am going to ask you some questions.
A: OK, please go ahead.
N: You are now at a pedestrians’ crossing with your tourists visiting Japan. What do you suggest them to be or to do?
A: I tell them to be watchful of reckless driving cars! I say to them, “Let’s follow traffic signals. So long as you keep traffic signals, you are compensate enough when hit by a car. So let’s never walk across when the signal is red, as you sometimes do in the States when you are sure there’s no car coming here, even when the signal is red.”
N: What do you explain Meiji Jingu Shrine when you guide your tourists there?
A: I have never been to Meiji Jingu Shrine... Sorry to say!
N: Then how about Dazaifu Tenmangu?
A: Oh, I know a lot about Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Dazaifu Tenmangu enshrines Sugawara-no-Michizane, he is the god of learning. In 892 he proposed Japan should abolish sending Kentoshi, or emissary to Tang Dynasty in China. ... Shrines are for praying good fortune.
N: What is the difference between Shochu and Sake?
A: Sake is made from rice, while shochu is made from various ingredients, such as wheat, sweet potatoes, black sugar, corn, etc. Which do you prefer?
N: Sake.
A: So do I. Talking of sake, after WWII, GHQ headquarters general Douglas McArthur liked sake best of all alcoholic drinks. He only drank Japanese sake, I hear.
N: What does it mean that on the New Year’s eve bells toll one hundred and eight times?
A: We, human beings, have 108 worries, or bad lucks. So bells toll for us to get rid of these ill fortunes which may await for us.
N: What period in Japanese history are you interested in most?
A: I’m interested in the history just after WWII, during WWII, and before WWII. When I was a boy, Japan was at war with America, Britain, and the Netherlands. I was attacked by F4F Grumman fighters. The sound was HEAVEN-Breaking! I was quite scared....
N: Now that’s all for you. You may leave. Thank you.
A: Thank you, too. Be happy. Have a nice day!
