試験の様子

試験官は外国人男性、日本人女性の2名

受付が開始する前の控え室、受付を済ませてからの控え室、試験直前の控え室がありました。直前の控え室は、座る場所まで決められており、良く準備されていると思いました。試験の声も聞こえませんでした。試験終了後は、係りの方に案内され、また別の控え室で待機しました。

質問内容

（以下、J：日本人試験官、N：ネイティブ試験官、A：受験者）

A: Good afternoon!

J: Good afternoon! Please leave your bag and have a seat.

A: Thank you.

J: What’s your name?

A: My name is ….

J: …と確認し、これから試験です、ということを英語でいう。

N: How are you today?

A: I’m fine thank you and you?

N: I’m fine. (微笑む) Tell me about the garden. Could you recommend traditional Japanese gardens?

A: If you would like to see traditional Japanese gardens I would recommend you to go to Kennrokuen in Ishikawa prefecture because it is one of the 3 most scenic gardens in Japan. It is 100,000m2. There are 3 hills. Kennroku means that garden has 6 beauties, such as, vast area. As I mentioned, it is 100,000 m2. And view. It is located 53 meters above sea level therefore view is wonderful. And water. Inside the garden, there are many ponds. There are many pine trees in Kennrokuenn. In winter, in order to protect them, they put ropes in a cone shape. That adds the beauty to this garden. That is why I recommend you Kennrokuen garden.

N: What do you think about Japanese economy?

A: I think Japanese economy is sluggish now because of the sub prime loan problem.(知り合いの会社でも、レイオフされた人がいる事、その他具体的社名を出して述べました。) Although yen is appreciated now, it is not because Japanese economy is doing well but because other countries are not doing well such as the United States and Europe. That is why I think Japanese economy is sluggish.

N: Please tell me about Hakone.

A: Hakone is located west part of Kanagawa prefecture. Historically, Hakone was important as a checking point during the Edo period. (I talked about a checking point. I stopped after talking about how they checked women’s hair…. Then, I continued by saying) but now, it is a tourist spot. There are hot springs. There is a place where they make boiled eggs using hot spring water. If you eat them you will live 75 days longer. You can ride a pirate boat in Ashinoko lake. As I mentioned, since it is located west part of Kanagawa prefecture, you can see Mt. Fuji from Hakone.

試験を終えて

終わった直後は、まずまずと思ったのですが、思い起こせば、次のようなことが気になり、落ち込み気味です。非常に緊張してしまいました。笑顔だけは忘れませんでしたが…。

一問目の、Tell me about the garden. に答えなかったこと、Gardens複数で聞かれたのに、1つしか薦めませんでしたし、どこが、典型的な日本庭園という説明もしなかった事、枯山水の話もしなかったという事　二問目のeconomyは、具体的な数字を入れなかったですし、株価の話もしませんでしたし、sluggish どころかマイナス成長なので、recessionの方が良かったのではと思い、三問目は、思いつくままに、答えてしまいましたので、なぜかいきなり、関所の話を始めてしまい、途中で気付き、(女性の髪の毛をチェックすることまで話し始めてしまいました。反省。)　｢でも今は…｣と続けました。箱根は行きやすくて人気の場所、などを言えませんでした。もっと、起承転結を考えて、話せば良かったと思いました。数字で間違っているところもあります。表現が適切ではないところ、文法的な間違いもあります。それでも、一問目で、具体的な数字を挙げた時、女性が、うなずいているようでしたので、良かったと思いました。二問目では、レイオフの話で、試験官から、ほーそれは大変、というリアクションがありました。三問目では、富士山や海賊船の話にはうなづいて下さいましたので、良かったと思います。

同じ時間帯の他の方もそうでしたが、名前しか聞かれませんでした。質問ー回答、質問ー回答でした。前のグループから、5、6分遅れが出ていましたので、それもあるかもしれません。
