試験の様子

福岡受験。
13:00に係の人から案内があり受け付け後，控え室で待機。
試験が14:00からで、10分前ぐらい(13:50過ぎ)に試験の会場(部屋)へ誘導されて行く。3人ずつ5カ所それぞれの部屋へ。
試験時間がだいたい7-8分で10分ごとに係の人がドアを開け，部屋に通された。3人目だったのでほぼ14:20にはじまり14:28ぐらいに終わった。受付けが30分遅いグループ(13:30)の人と一緒に15時に(約30人)解放された。
試験官はネイティブの男性(50-60代、年齢はよくわからないが声はあまり大きくなくて早口)と日本人女性一名(60代?、はじめに名前だけ聞きあとは採点?)。

質問内容

（以下、J：日本人試験官、N：ネイティブ試験官、A：受験者）

J: Good afternoon.

N: Have a seat. Please be relaxed.（何か言われたがリラックスするように言ってると思って，聞き流した。)

J: What is your name ?

A: My name is .…

N: First I’ll ask you about Japanese language. I heard there are some different dialects in Japan. Can you tell me something about Japanese dialects?

A: In Japan we have many dialects. For example, standard dialect is Tokyo language. That’s usually broadcasted on TV or radio. And other dialects are Osaka-ben or Hiroshima-ben. Those are the dialects and a little difference. For example, Hiroshima dialects “Miyasui.” It is usually translated “It is easy to see.” But in Hiroshima dialect, it means “easy”. It’s very difficult to catch even if they are Japanese. (Tokyo language?変なこと言った、単数、複数いい加減と思いながら言った)

N: So there is sometimes some communication problem.

A: Yes, sometimes. but we are Japanese. So we can be accustomed to what they are talking about gradually.

N: OＫ. In Japanese history, what’s your favorite Japanese period?

A: Period?

N: Yes.

A: I like Edo period. Because it isolated for a long time, (isolated言い間違ったと思った。) but the culture flourished during the Edo period. For example, ukiyo-e is one of the Japanese culture which influenced many artists in France. And many things flourished during the Edo period .... (内容もないし文法的にも間違ってるので言いながらだんだん焦ってきた。)

N: So very cultural period.

A: Yes, I think so.

N: I heard recently a lot of Australian people go to Hokkaido for skiing. Are there any other areas in Japan that is very good for skiing besides Hokkaido?

A: Of course we have a lot of high mountains. And we have a lot of snow in winter. We had Olympic games in Nagano and Sapporo. Nagano is in the central Japan. Hakuba is one of the name of the good ski resorts. It’s a good place. So I recommend you to visit. (間違ったが一応答えられた。次はなんだ)

N: Thank you. How far is it from Tokyo?

A: From Tokyo? Well, It’s very far by car. Maybe more than 3, 4, 5 hours, I’m not sure. (適当に言っちゃえという感じでした。)

N: OK, I was looking at the picture the other day. I noticed samurai always have two swords. Why ?

A: Some samurai has only one sword. Some samurai has two swords. One is for the battle for the other samurai. And the short one, maybe it is for harakiri, a kind of practice of samurai warrior, to cut their ... stomach, body … not to be humiliated by other samurai when they are put into a very difficult situations. (考えたことがなかったので思いついたことを言いはじめ、英文がでたらめと思いながらとにかく言い終わろうとした。)

N: OK. Japanese gardens! I was visiting Japanese garden the other day. I saw some gardeners working there, wrapping a tree by a straw blanket or something. What’s that for? Do you know what ‘s it for?

A: I’m not sure, but I think it’s good for their trees. Sorry .… (また考えたことない質問で少しあきらめ気分。いつまで続くのか少し弱気になった。)

N: That’s OK. If you would take a group of tourists to … temple, (早口で何か言われたし、よく聞き取れなかったがもう聞き返すより答えることにせいいっぱい) what is the first thing you want to tell them?

A: I think I should tell them when they should come back to the bus or the place I suggested. And after that I think …. Be careful about deer.

N: Deer …（と笑いながら言われたので、あ、まずい、関係ないこと言ってると思った）

A: … not tamed recently … (みんなで笑ったが、しまった、奈良の寺と言ってない?し、質問聞き返すべきだったとあせった。)

N: When you leave, for example, moving to the next sightseeing spot, if you are stuck in traffic jam for a long time, and can’t move. How would you entertain your tourists? How would you take care of them?

A: One thing I can do is to tell the history or something about the area. If we have a lot of time to get out of the congestion, I wonder if I would sing some songs.

N: Oh you are a good singer.

A: No, not a good singer. But I like singing, sometimes I go to karaoke. That’s the best place for me to appeal.

N: Good. Very good. Thank you very much.

試験を終えて

7つ質問された。即答に心がけたが、言い終わるとすぐ次の質問という感じ。内容がなかったので質問が次々とされたような気がする。しかも次々と質問が来るのでそのペースに乗せられてしまい、最後まで自分のペースで話せず、質問に答えただけのようになった。ガイドしているという感じではなかったし、昨年と同じようにGood. Very good.と言ってもらっておわったので、今年もダメかと終わった瞬間思った。
