質問内容

（以下、J：日本人試験官、N：ネイティブ試験官、A：受験者）

A: (ドアをノックして) Good morning.

J: Good morning. Come in please. Your kimono looks very beautiful.

A: Thank you.

J: Could you tell us your name and where you live?

A: Yes. My name is ... . I live in Kokubunji city Tokyo.

N: There is a garden in Kokubunji right?

A: Yes, there is. That is the Tonogayato garden.

N: I was going to ask you about Japanese garden. Was that garden build in Edo period?

A: No, I don't think so. I am not sure when it was built but I think it is a relatively new garden.

N: Could you tell me about Sankinkoutai?

A: Yes, Sankinkoutai is the system which was practiced in Edo period. Feudal lords were supposed to visit Edo or current Tokyo. The aim of the Sankinkoutai was to deteriorate the powers of feudal lords by spending money to come to Edo.

N: Were the family members of those feudal lords live in Edo?

A: Well, I am not sure but I do not think so. I am sorry but I don’t know about the Sankinkoutai well.

N: I want to know about Japanese traditional houses. Do you live in a traditional Japanese house?

A: No, I don’t. I live in a western style house.

N: You look very traditional girl so I thought you live in a traditional Japanese house. (和服を着ていました。)

A: Nowadays I do not live in a traditional Japanese house but my parents live in a traditional Japanese house and I grow up there. So, I can explain about traditional Japanese houses.

N: All right. Go ahead please.

A: The traditional Japanese houses are built by mainly wood and paper. The rooms are matted with TATAMI or straw mats. Usually, there is a room which has Tokonoma or a Japanese alcove.

N: The room for alcoholic? The special room for drinking?

(米国人の試験管が冗談を言い、3人で笑う)

A: No, not for an alcoholic drinking. What I was going to say was the room with an alcove.

N: An alcove. All right.

A: You decorate the alcove with a vase of flowers or a hanging scroll.

N: I see.

Which season do you recommend to visit Kamakura?

A: I recommend autumn. Because the climate is mild and you can enjoy colorful and beautiful leaves. Autumn actually now is the best season to travel not only to Kamakura but also other places in Japan.

N: All right. There are lots of temples in Kamakura. Why is that?

A: Well, let me see. Since, there was a time when feudal government was placed there. Since the government supported Buddhism, a lot of temples were built there.

N: All right.

You mentioned autumn is the best season to travel around Japan. Now, Could you explain Japanese climate?

A: Well, since Japan is a long island stretching from north to south. The climate is different according to places. So, in which part of Japan, do you want to know?

N: Well, then Tokyo please.

A: In spring beginning from March to May, it is getting warm, between spring and summer, there is a rainy season in June to middle of July. In summer time from July to September it is hot and humid, in autumn from September to November it becomes dry and mild and in winter time from December to February it is cold and we sometimes have snow

N: I see.

J: Any other questions you want to ask?

N: No, I don’t. I am OK.

J: Thank you very much.

A: The exam has finished?

J: Yes, you did good job.

A: Thank you very much.
