A: (ドアをノックして)Good afternoon.

J: Good afternoon. Have a seat. What is your name?

A: My name is ...

J: Where do you live?

A: I live in ... ... Do you know where it is?

N: Yes, I know.

N: Let me ask you a few questions about Japan.

A: Yes, please.

N: Where do you recommend to visit if I go to one day trip in Tokyo ?

A: It depends on what you want to see, but I would recommend that you visit Asakusa temple, Meiji Shinto shrine, and Imperial Palace for cultural assets, and Tokyo tower, Shibuya or Ginza for modern Japan.

(So, you can see traditional things and modern things

N: What do you recommend to see traditional or cultural things in Tokyo ?

A: There is Kabuki theater in Tokyo.

Kabuki is dramatic art which was developed in the 16th century. The unique point of Kabuki is that all roles are played by men. Other characteristics of Kabuki are elaborated costumes, exaggerated make-up, the stage is sophisticated, and there is a runway, Called Hanamichi, extends to the audience. It is unique. This is Kabuki.

N: What do you recommend the best place to visit in Kamakura?

A: I would recommend that you visit Hase temple. There is a big statue of Buddha, it is amazing size, huge ( 身振りで表現 )and you can enter inside of the Buddha. It would be interesting.

N: How do you explain "Giri" to foreign visitors?

A: Giri is social obligation. If I receive a favor from the person, then I will help him if he has a trouble.(いい例が思い浮かばず・・・)

N: How do you explain about Kendo to the first visitors to Japan ?

A: Kendo is a martial art. We use bamboo sword and hold it with two hands. A player wear a head gear, or a mask , groves, and a body armor. A player also wear pleated skirt , special uniform for Kendo. The score is pointed by hitting the opponent's head, wrist, and body. That is Kendo.(ジェスチャーを交えて説明)

N: Do you think the number of Kendo player is increasing or decreasing ?

A: I think it is decreasing. Because we need stuffs like mask, gloves and body armor, it is a bit expensive. Other martial art like Karate and Judo are popular. Judo is an Olimpic Game. Actually, I did Kendo when I was a child. (後からbecause other sports like baseball and soccer are popularなど言えば良かったと後悔)

N: What the most advantage for children to learn Kendo?

A: I think the most advantage is to learn discipline and good behavior and we do not wear socks when we play Kendo, so it is good for health. (self-discipline

N: What do you think of unbalance the number of visitors to Japan and the number

of people go abroad? I mean less number of people visit Japan.

A: It is a promotion problem, I think. Promotion does not work well in overseas. The government needs to promote how Japan is attractive country to visit. and enhance local cities to invite foreign visitors to the cities. For example, hire employees who speak English or write menu in English. That would be helpful.

N: Yeah, that would be helpful(賛同する感じで。

N: Why many children go to cram school after school ?

A: Because many children want to go to private schools like junior high school, high school, even elementary schools. The entrance exams are very difficult and studying at school is not enough for preparing and passing the exams.

N: Do you think children want to go to cram schools ?

A: No, I do not think so. Parents want their children to go to cram school. Because they want their children to enter good schools. It helps their Future, to enter high level universities and get nice quality of jobs. But some children will understand it.

N: I see. Ok, Thank you very much.

A: Thank you very much. I enjoyed it.

N: That is good.
