(２次試験の概要 於 明海大学 時間 午後)
試験会場の明海大学の指定されたラウンジでしばらく待ちました。指定された時間になると、係の人が集合を呼びかけ、受験番号ごとに比較的小規模な教室で受験番号順に着席して待ちました。
４～５人ずつ誘導され、試験室の並ぶ別の階に行き、二人ずつ、試験室の前で待ちました。小生の試験は２番目でした。
Can I come in?
Sure. Come in.
試験官は、男性２名でした。一人は３０代の日本人。もう一人は５０代で、おそらく英国人かカナダ人と思われました。
Good afternoon sir. I am ＿＿＿＿＿＿.
OK. Take a seat.
すぐに試験が始まりました。ウオーミングアップのやり取りが全くなかったので意外でした。
日本人の試験官から、「ではこれから問題文を読み上げます。メモを取る場合は、隣の椅子の上の紙とペンを使ってください。」と言われました。紙はクリップ付の下敷きのついた無地の白い紙。ペンはインクの薄いボールペンでした。
「新幹線は、東京オリンピックの開かれた１９６４年に開業しました。現在、８路線あります。新幹線は、現在、引き続き建設中で、日本の主要な都市を結ぶ計画があります。」
「Sinkansen bullet train started its service at １９６４．It was the year that Tokyo Olympic game was held. Now, there are 8 routes of Sinkansen railways. Sinkansen railways are still now under construction. There is a plan that they will connect Japan’s major cities.」
そのまま、すぐに、３枚の小さなカードを日本人の試験官から手渡されました。以下の通りいわれました。
「これから示されたテーマを一つ選び、プレゼンテーションを２分間してください。」
１枚目「居酒屋について」
２枚目「２０１１年の東日本大震災後の・・・・」（以下読んでいません。）
３枚目（見ませんでした。）
２枚目を見始めた途中から、プレゼンテーションのテーマを１枚目の「居酒屋について」に決めました。
ごく短時間の検討時間（おそらく２分間）の後、「では始めてください。」と言われ、プレゼンテーションを始めました。
「 I would like to talk about No.1, Izakaya.
Izakaya is the Japanese style drinking and eating establishment.
It offers you various kinds of liquors and cuisines at Izakaya.
You can drink Japanese Sake, wine, beer, whisky high bowl, chuhai, that is distilled Japanese original liquor diluted by juice. And you can eat not only Japanese cuisines like rice ball, pickled vegetable, but also foreign origin dishes, like salad, pizza, sausage, and others.
Best thing about Izakaya that I have to say is that it is very convenient place for foreign tourists to take supper in Japan. Because Izakaya which is run by big restaurant company offers you menus with pictures of beverages and cuisines. If the tourists cannot understand Japanese language, they can order with pointing to the pictures.
You can find Izakaya everywhere in Japan, especially near big stations or downtown area. You are able to find them quite easily. And you can taste many kinds of Japanese dishes. This is why I recommend you to go to Izakaya for an experience when you travel in Japan.」
この後、外国人の試験官だけから質問を受けました。
Would you let me know the prices of the dishes at Izakaya? Is it reasonable?
Yes. Most of the meals of Izakaya are quite reasonable. For example, Yakitori, Japanese style skywed and chopped chikin is offered less than 100yen, around 1 dollar.
Are there any Izakaya that has special meals? Can I try some of them?
Yes. Some of Izakaya offers you special taste. Chinese style one is one of the example.
Oh, Chinese, it’s good.
この２問のやり取りのみで終わってしまいました。
日本人の試験官が、「では以上です。お疲れ様でした。」といったので
Thank you sir. Have a good day.
と言って退出しました。
退出後は、係の人の誘導で試験会場の教室ある階の廊下の一番端の椅子でしばらく待機しました。全員が試験を終了した後、再度誘導され、大教室にておそらくその時間の受験生全員がそろうまで待たされました。３０分ほどして解散となりました。
今回の試験は、私にとって昨年に引き続きの２回目でした。昨年の二次の面接では、脈絡のない複数の質問を立て続けにされ、考える間もなく的確に答えることができず、不合格でした。今回は、CELで相当練習してから臨んだこと、そして、設問を選ぶことができることになっただけでなく、自信をもって答えられるもの（居酒屋）を選んだので、終始落ち着いて、笑顔で回答できました。
