受講生28 女性試験の様子13:30集合、14:00移動、14：10本番開始。 質問内容（Ｊ：日本人試験官、Ｎ：ネイティブ試験官、Ａ：受験者） A:（ノックして入る）失礼します。 J:どうぞお入りください。 N:Come on in. Please sit. A:Thank you. J:まずお名前をお願いします。 A:はい、（名前）と申します。（あれ、住所は聞かないの？） J:はい、ではお願いします（Nへ合図） N:Now let me ask you some questions. You're a guide and I'm a tourist. Let's have fun. A:Sure. N:Can you tell me about the geography of Japan? A:Japan is located in the east of Asia, and it's consisted of four main islands. The Japanese archipelago stretches 3800km from northeast to southwest. Hokkaido, northern part, is very cold in winter marking below zero at temperature. On the other hand, southern islands like Okinawa are warm throughout a year, average temp of 18 degree Celsius. The climate is quite different between north and south.（四季を言うべきかと思ったがやめて様子見。） N:Ok, can you tell me what is "Pachinko"? A:"Pachinko" is a kind of gambling in Japan. When you go to a pachinko parlor, you will find the rows of slot machines (正しくはpinball machine.). You can choose one of them and hit balls, then if you're lucky you will be awarded with some novelties. N:Can we get cash for award? A:Oh, that's not allowed... N:Well I'm always wondering why pachinko is so noisy. I don't understand why there is pachinko parlors in every station either..., anyway（質問というか独り言。答えなくてよいという感じで制される。Jもクスっとされる） N:OK, We're planning to go a one-day trip to Hiroshima. Where would you recommend? A:I would recommend to visit the Hiroshima atomic bomb site.（原爆ドームなのか資料館なのか迷いつつ） As you know, Hiroshima was attacked by nuclear weapon in 1945. There is a nice Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima. I've been there several times, and it always forced me to think seriously about the importance of peace and how we can maintain it. N:And what can we eat? A:The popular local food of Hiroshima is Okonomikyaki. Okonomiyaki is a kind of a pancake, cooked on a big flat steel table.（？）It's made from shredded cabbage, some seafood... N:Is it good? A:Yes, I'm sure you will love it. N:OK, can you give me one example in daily lives that Japan has imported from other countries? A:Well, anything imported from other countries? N:Yes, anything in your daily life. A; Actually there are a lot of things we have imported from other countries. Major example of this is Kanji, Chinese character. (Nうなずく:good answer) We use three character sets, and Kanji is one of them. Kanji is an ideogram, so we use them with two other indigenous characters. N:OK this is the last question. I heard that English education is compulsory in high schools in Japan. Do you know why they can't speak English very well? A:That's actually a very serious problem. One reason of that is that there is few opportunities for students to communicate with foreign people. English class in high schools tends to focus on grammar and preparation for the standardized test for universities. So I don't think it's practical. N:OK...and where does your accent come from?（もはや雑談という感じ） A:My accent? N:Yes A:I think it's from Canada where I've studied for a year.（Jうなずく） N:OK, I'm just curious. Thank you.（Jへ合図） J:では日本語でお尋ねしますので日本語でお答えください。ガイドとして外国のお客様をどのような点に気をつけて親切にもてなしたいと思われますか？（待機中に聞こえ漏れていたものと一言一句同じ。この"親切に"に意図を感じたので考えていた） A:はい、まずはお客様の安全と健康状態に気を配りたいと思います。それから日本の文化的施設、お寺やお庭をご案内する際には五感を使ってじっくりと場の雰囲気を感じていただくことが大切だと思っておりますので、私が何もかも最初に説明してしまうのではなく、お客様が知りたいことを適切なタイミングでご説明するという配慮をして、お客様に主体的に楽しんでいただきたいと思っております。 J:結構です。ありがとうございました。 A:ありがとうございました。Thank you. 失礼します（一礼して退出） 試験を終えて面接官お二人とも終始笑顔で、「この場を楽しみましょう」という雰囲気を出してくれたので大変助かりました。試験の緊張感がほぐれリラックスして自然に受け答えできたと思います。CELのintensiveで前日に聞かれた質問（パチンコ）が出たのもラッキーでした。また、同じく前日のクラスで、「正しい情報を出そうとして考えこんで黙るより、会話を転がす（fluency）ことの方が大事」というアドバイスを聞いていたため、分からなくてもその時は素直に思い浮かぶ内容だけで誠実に対応するしかないと腹をくくっていたのも良かったと思います。その場を楽しむことに集中したことで、テストという枠を超えてガイドに大切な態度をひとつ学べた気がします。 |
