Please come in.
A: Good evening.
J&N:Good evening.
(Please have a seat.
A: Thank you.
(N:May I have your name? Where do you live?
A:I am____. I live in Yokohama.

It is customary for Japanese people to make a sound, or slurp intentionally when they eat noodles or drink green tea and eat(drinkと言ったかも) Japanese soup in order to express gratitude to host, or hostess, feeling of “It’s delicious.” and “Thank you”. Thank you.

A: Let me talk about "Tokaido-53 stations." Tokaido-Highway-53 stations were founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603 between Nihonnbashi in Tokyo and Kyoto. The distance was about 500 km. This road was very important for transportation because of changing manpower and horse at those stations. It took about 14 days to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto.
N: Oh! Fourteen days? It's so lo-o-ong.
A: Yes, exactly.(あれ?
Therefore, traveling was very special for Edo people. Many people were admired traveling Kyoto, of course including Hakone! Many beautiful landscapes were depicted by painters such as Hiroshige and Hokusai. Thank you.

N:Thank you. I am very interested to hear that it took fourteen days to travel from Edo to Kyoto. So I would like to ask about…….,I guess the traveler stayed in some accommodations. Were there any accommodations at the stations?
A: Oh, yes! Of course, there were many accommodations at stations. Travelers stayed in those accommodations. Of course, government officials did. Those accommodations developed into present day ryokan, traditional inn.
N: I see. By the way, may I ask about other topic?
A: Sure.
N:Please tell me about Kusatu onsen. I am interested in it. Have you ever been there?
A: Yes, I’ve been Kusatu twice. One in winter to ski(スキーのジェスチャー)、other to just enjoy hot spring.
N: Wow!  Twice?
A: There are various kinds of ski courses in Kusatu, so children also enjoy using sori, let me see, playing tool in the long board. Children sit there, and slide on the snow. Oh, it’s sleigh.
N: Ah!  It’s ski. isn’t it?
A: Yes. Exactly, thank you. (ski
And Kusatu hot spring is No.1 for its amount of hot spring water. We, you can see very unique and interesting performance by local women. It’s called “yumomi”. The water is very hot, so women make the temperature of water down using lo-o-ong wooden tablet like this(ジェスチャーで甥や姪が体験した画像を思い出しながら座ったまま手を動かす)
How long does it take to Kusatu?
A: It takes about three, well, two and a half hours from Tokyo. At first take a shinkasnsen to JR Takasaki station and then you take local train to Kusatu station.
N: Thank you very much. Lastly, why did you decide to become a tour guide?
A:One encounter with a French high school girl decided me to become a tour guide. She asked me about ukiyoe or woodblock picture several years ago, but at that time, I could not answer her questions well. She made me notice wonderful things about Japanese culture. Of course I would like to tell about good points of Japan, but personally I like to meet many people having different cultures. Thank you.
N: Thank you.
A: Thank you very much. I enjoyed the interview.
N: You were a little nervous?
A: Yes, at first.
N: Still now?
A: No, I’m all right. I’ve enjoyed.

Have a nice day!
N: You, too!
